We were in KY doing the bourbon trail and many of the distillers mentioned getting barrels from this place. If you have time, it is a great way to tie together all the distillery tours. Note: It is HOT inside the factory! Dress for heat. I highly recommend this tour, as it kind of completes the visit to bourbon country. My favorite part was watching them fire the inside of the barrels. The tour takes you through the barrel making process from beginning to end and is quite informative. Before you go into the factory they give you headphones and a radio receiver so the tour guide can talk to you over the noise. You must wear closed-toe shoes or you can't go. The tour starts in a showroom across the street and they take you over to the factory in a van. We looked up cooperages online and saw that Kentucky Cooperage was just a short drive from Bardstown where we were staying. So, we thought, since we had seen how the bourbon was made, why not go and see how the barrels are made. On our latest trip to Kentucky to visit bourbon distilleries, we noticed that they all talked about how important the barrels were to the process and how the flavor came.
